The Scope of Practice for Academic Nurse Educators

As an extra of the NLN collaboration with LWW, NLN associates will receive a 20 percent discount on items available via lww.com. LWW and the NLN will also work together to provide member-only involvement opportunities.

“This collaboration allows the National League for Nursing to expand the reach of our publishing, and to further drive educational results that eventually improve our country’s health,” said Dr. Beverly Malone, CEO of the NLN. “LWW has the skills to guide us as we build our material profile, assistance our Facilities for Nursing Education, and help staff advance in their professions. We know we can depend on LWW to extend the impact of our titles and offer our associates with high quality services and assistance.”

A major founder of reliable nursing and other health material, LWW generates top quality, student-tested and faculty-endorsed resources for learners, staff, and experts in nursing and health-related areas. LWW’s text and review items, as well as e-books, mobile phone applications, and online solutions help nurses, teachers, and organizations. “The National League for Nursing is a major force and driver of quality in nursing education. LWW shares the dedication to enhance the nursing labor force,” says Leslie Driscoll, CEO of Wolters Kluwer Health’s Professional and Education Group. “We look forward to working together with the NLN, with nurse staff, and with key opinion leaders, to rapidly develop and enhance innovative promotions for staff and student growth.”

Peer Learning and Nursing Education

Nursing education research has often focused on traditional educating techniques such as classroom setting studying, a behaviorism-based educating method depending on passive studying. More efficient student-centric studying techniques are now being utilized to motivate efficient school student contribution and creativity. One of these techniques is peer learning, in which colleagues understand from one another, including efficient school student contribution and where the school student takes liability for their studying. Despite being used for many years, one of the limitations to progression of peer learning is a lack of reliability in its definition. It is known by different exchangeable headings such as “cooperative studying,” “mentoring,” “peer review studying,” “peer training,” “peer guidance,” “problem-based studying,” and “team studying.”

Peer learning has been used in education and learning to deal with critical thinking, psychomotor abilities, intellectual development, Nursing skills, and educational benefits. One type of peer studying is problem-based studying or PBL which is recognized by learners studying from each other and from individually procured information. It is school student based, utilizing team work with the study of case research as a means of studying. On the other hand, “peer tutoring” includes individuals from similar settings helping others to understand which may occur one-on-one or as small number of groups. In nursing, high student numbers increase demands, whilst different and impressive educating techniques are beneficial with peer learning, offering a strategy that may be beneficial.

The Oxford Thesaurus describes a “peer” as someone of the same age or someone who was attending the same school. The term “peer” can also refer to people who have equivalent abilities or a common function of experiences. Both these explanations suit the concept of peer studying described. PBL was revealed to be efficient, particularly in the theoretical studying component to train and study, whilst peer tutoring, peer coaching, peer guidance, and the use of role play as a form of peer studying were all efficient, both in medical and theoretical aspects of nursing education and learning.

The Right Online Nursing School

There are many kinds of healthcare programs available leading to different healthcare degrees. The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program requires 2 years of study and offers with the essential, efficient components of healthcare. The profession of nursing is a noble job including direct individual care in all settings. Nursing staff help doctors and other physicians position from medical centers to free treatment centers. Nursing staff are dedicated to virtually any healthcare industry.

There are many kinds of healthcare programs available leading to different healthcare degrees. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is a four-year program. After completing these programs, a board evaluation may be taken by nurses to become an RN. The test is recognized as NCLEX-RN. In picking a school of nursing, it’s very important to make sure the programs provided by the school are approved by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or NLNAC. An approved program must be completed by you to get the board evaluation. Going for a healthcare course today is extremely ideal, as there is a shortage of nurses in the United States.

At the moment, more and more healthcare educational institutions are providing web-based programs, designed for adult students who have the desire for a chance to learn that will fit their busy lifestyles. These programs offer practical, quality courses, particular academic advisement, skilled healthcare colleges, growth and job flexibility and university funding for individuals who qualify. Nursing Homes Cost

The cost of living at nursing homes has soared to a new high of more than $80,000 per year. Over the past five years, the average yearly price of private nursing homes has jumped 24% from $67,527 to $83,950, according to Genworth’s 2013 Cost of Care Survey, based on data from nearly 15,000 long-term health care providers. From 2012 to 2013 alone, the price climbed 4%. A combination of factors is pushing expenses greater, said Bob Bua, V. P. of Genworth. Expenses like insurance, food, building maintenance and labor expenses are all going up and being passed along to customers as a result. “Nursing home employees hardly ever get pay decreases, food hardly ever costs less, rent hardly ever goes down, it’s an ever-increasing cycle,” Bua said.

It’s not much cheaper for a semi-private room at a nursing home, where space is shared with at least one other person. This brings up at an average $75,405 per year, up 23% from five years ago. A less expensive alternative to nursing homes are assisted living facilities because they don’t offer the same level of care, but these are also seeing significant price increases from year-to-year. The average yearly price of care in an assisted living service is $41,400, up nearly 5% from last year and 23% greater than five years ago, Genworth discovered.

The price of at-home care, such as home health aides or homemakers, is rising at a much slower pace. Hiring a homemaker, who typically assists elderly people with cleaning, cooking and transportation, currently costs an average $41,756 per year, up just 1% from last year and a mere 4% increase from five years ago. Home health aides, who provide more hands-on care like bathing and grooming, cost $44,479 per year, up 5% from five years ago. At-home care is also the most attractive option for many elderly people. A separate Genworth study discovered that 78% of respondents would prefer to receive care in their own houses rather than go to a nursing home or assisted living service.

Anatomy & Physiology Classes Online

Nursing education has a lot of challenging pre-requisites and learners are often in a rush to get them done so that they can get started with what they really want to do…become a nurse!  So it’s very attractive to take short-cuts in an attempt to speed things along.  That is not necessarily a bad factor, unless your “shortcut” backfires.  A quick way that does not work will waste your efforts, energy, time and money.

One typical quick way that pre-nursing learners look for is classes on the web.  On the internet classes are excellent because they allow for a versatile routine where you can work at your own speed.  Actually, I’ve often seen nurses ask about getting their Anatomy & Physiology classes online. Here are the significant factors you have to consider before getting an internet based Anatomy & Physiology class.

All Anatomy & Physiology classes should have 2 parts:  Lecture (3 credits), and Lab (1 credit).  In general, if you discover an Anatomy & Physiology class that says to be absolutely online…stay away!!!  The Lab part of an Anatomy & Physiology class should always be finished in person.  Yes, that means that you will have to actually go to a school and get involved in laboratory exercises, but it also means that you will get the complete 4-credits of Anatomy & Physiology that you need to be admitted to a nursing school.  I have never seen a nursing school that allows an Anatomy & Physiology pre-requisite that does not consist of an in-person lab element, so it would be pointless for you to take a class like that.

However, many schools now provide a “hybrid” edition of Anatomy & Physiology.  This allows you to take the Lecture part of the class online, while still visiting school about once weekly to join in the Lab.  This is an awesome bargain that still allows you to have a lot of versatility, while still making sure that you fulfill the nursing school pre-requisite specifications.  Just bear in mind that some schools may still need you to take examinations on school in the computer lab, while other educational institutions might let you take examinations at home on your laptop or pc.

National League for Nursing

Members who wish to join in the NLN need to first engage in a course in nursing. NLN generally encourages quality in nursing education. This results in motivated and different nursing employees. Many learners, before starting on a profession in nursing, always wish to understand what is nursing. This is a royal profession that has been around for hundreds of years and generally includes helping physicians for and supporting sufferers so they get well. Once a college student studies this course, whether at degree or diploma level, they will graduate college and then get a well-paying job. Basically, a nurse will receive an eye-catching program upon employment in line with the national nursing wage at the time.

However, the road to getting nursing qualifications starts with enrolling in a nursing course at a university or college. This is what most learners do. There are certain conditions before a college student can be registered to study a nursing course at an accepted school. Courses trained at nursing educational institutions, whether university or college, degree, diploma or master’s stage, have to be accepted by the NLN. This is an important body that works with nursing staff and nursing educational institutions, guaranteeing that the needs of the individuals, learners and nursing staff and their instructors and trainers are taken care of always.

At these organizations of greater learning such as at college, students get to understand what is nursing when they seek various medical qualifications. These qualifications programs include nursing degrees in various areas of nursing. Many graduate nurses have gone on to have a successful career in nursing. The nurses can specialize in a chosen field of practice. There are theater nurses, internal medication nurses, medical nurses, dental nurses and so on. The choice of a career is determined by nurses. When learning for a nursing degree under a nursing program at any school, a student can at all times receive help, assistance, guidance and support from the NLN.

The Standard of Nursing Education

Major critiques of nursing education and nurses have come from a variety of sources, from nursing education inspections, the patients, relatives and nursing students themselves. Such far reaching critique cannot be ignored as a few unfortunate experiences in a busy pressured service, nor down to a few ‘bad apples’ that have let the service down in the way they have treated vulnerable sufferers.

That the nurses these days are accused of lacking in sympathy or failing to provide sensible care should be a matter of severe concern to all of us in the career. Whether or not these criticisms are validated, the community perception of nursing is being shaped by these reports. The critique of nursing is often targeted at health professional information as if to educate nurses, was somehow to reduce their ability, or desire, to provide sympathetic and sensible care. At this time, when the career is moving to all graduate entry by 2013 we need to assure sufferers, our community and the political figures that nursing education is not only compatible with caring, sympathetic and secure training, but is it’s very foundation. Our sufferers surely deserve well educated, informed and qualified nurses who can incorporate complex information and make secure and effective treatments. To suggest otherwise would be to fail to recognize the complexness of judgment that is necessary for secure care in today’s medical care atmosphere.

It is not too many years ago that third year student nurses would be left in charge of wards at night. Nowadays, with the complexness of surgical involvement and acuity of sufferers, this would be amazing, placing sufferers at risk and, indeed, could be considered negligent. Medical care is an ever changing world and nurses need information that prepares them for the changes and challenges ahead. Yet, preparing nurses to become caring, qualified practitioners requires much more than the acquisition of abilities and information obtained through the formal years of training and learning.

NLNAC Accredited Nursing Programs

The National League for Nursing is the non-profit company identified by the Department of Education as the trustworthy accrediting body for nursing educational institutions. The National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission or NLNAC is the company that actually processes certification demands and acts on them. The nursing applications at major medical facilities, medical educational institutions and colleges and universities have generally managed certification for many. Many of the approved nursing programs are still at community colleges, since all that is required to be eligible for the RN examination is an associate’s degree.

Today, many nurses opt for a BSN in order to be eligible for a management role as their careers improve. In addition, the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission or NLNAC has approved a number of on the internet educational institutions for various nursing degrees. Some of the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission or NLNAC approved nursing educational institutions have developed quality on the internet nursing degree programs as an result of their university training.

Although it may seem unlikely, there are some medical programs that do not have NLNAC qualification.  They may have gained and then lost their rankings.  They may be a new university trying to obtain the accreditation.  Whatever the purpose, you should know that it will impact you if you choose to be present at their university.  If you think that it may be possible they will get it before completing your program, you could be in for a letdown.  Do not take any possibilities. The accreditation procedure usually requires a few years. If you graduate from a program while it is definitely in the accreditation procedure and it ends up getting approved after you graduate, your degree will count as being from an accredited program. However, if “working towards” accreditation indicates they might apply at some point, you will be a graduate of an unaccredited system, even if they gradually do get approved.

National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission Difference

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or NLNAC are two of the most identified accrediting organizations in the country. They are also two of the most significant organizations, often identifying qualifications for student aid or career practicality. Economical aid organizations simply will not finance non-accredited nursing programs and companies are not comfortable choosing graduates from non-accredited nursing educational institutions. To ensure nurses can secure sufficient educational funding and secure a job, both the CCNE and National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission encourage tight requirements onto a wide range of eligible programs. CCNE and NLNAC accreditation varies in the sense that the CCNE does not accredit LPN, Diploma, or ADN programs while the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission does.

All baccalaureate, graduates and residence nursing programs operating under CCNE accreditation do so according to nationally identified requirements. Nursing certification, diploma and professional degree programs operating under NLNAC accreditation do so using the same requirements as well. And contribution in both is completely non-reflex.

The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission follows the same concepts and procedures as does the CCNE. The organization accredits about 200 new nursing programs per year and watches 1300 programs per year. However, being the earliest accreditation program of the two, it offers a bit more than the CCNE. While the CCNE apparently places most of its focus on implementing requirements for nursing institutions, the NLNAC combines the same educational requirements with unique undergraduate conditions. It also works much more closely with government requirements than the CCNE does. For example, the NLNAC is the gatekeeper to Title IV-HEA programs, which lets practical nursing and hospital accreditation programs participate in DOE or other federal agency programs. With such a close relationship with various government departments, the NLNAC is capable of providing a variety of undergraduate nurse assistance programs, not just financial aid programs.

Compensation for Nursing Home Injuries

Unfortunately there are many loved ones that are injured or die due to carelessness or improper care while in nursing homes. It is a cold, hard truth, but one that is not easily proven. When a citizen is harmed while in the care of nursing homes, it becomes the responsibility of the family of the resident in that facility to confirm that the elderly care facility is to blame, even when the proof seems obvious.

A situation against nursing homes carelessness or medical carelessness is usually considered a medical malpractice claim. It is not a simple situation to prove; the attorney representing the affected person or patient’s close relatives must be able to confirm that the damage or loss of life was due to carelessness on the part of the elderly care facility. This means the situation must be substantiated by proof that the elderly care facility did not provide what is considered standard care to the point that it caused damage or loss of life. These types of cases are extremely complicated to confirm due to the fact that most patients in assisted living facilities are already in poor health. Family members must be able to confirm, with the help of an experienced elderly care facility damage attorney, that the main cause of the damage was due to negligent care. Though certainly possible, it can be a long, difficult battle that families and the affected person must endure, although worth the effort to stop the elderly care facility from harming others in their care. Some aspects that will need to be proven are:

  • The elderly care facility deviated from standard care of an individual to the point that there was damage or death
  • That the carelessness was the primary reason for the damage or death
  • The individual did not receive treatment that would be normally expected and this lack of care lead to the damage or wrongful death
