Chemistry is equivalent to a 2-semester, college level chemistry course that focuses on the general topics of chemistry.
This course is available live and on-demand through the online Nursing , Other Degree , and Individual Course Credits programs.

    The Credit-By-Exam course offered by Distance Learning Systems™ allows individuals to earn college credits without attending a traditional college class by simply passing one nationally standardized exam for the award of credit. CLEP®, DSST® and Pearson Vue® offer their own exams in place of traditional courses which award credits that can be transferred toward earning a degree from 2,900 U.S. colleges and universities.

    About This Course

    This course prepares individuals for a credit-by-exam. This exam covers material that is usually covered in a one year college course in general chemistry. General topics on this exam include the following: structure of matter, states of matter, reaction types, equations and stoichiometry, equilibrium, kinetics, thermodynamics, descriptive chemistry and experimental chemistry. The ability to interpret and apply this material to new and unfamiliar problems is necessary for this exam. During this examination, an online scientific calculator function and a periodic table are available as part of the testing software provided.

    Course Objectives

    After completing this course, you will be able to:

    • Analyze and recall general facts and knowledge in relation to chemistry in general.
    • Recall and apply facts and information regarding atomic theory, atomic structure, chemical bonding, and nuclear chemistry.
    • Understand states of matter, as well as correlation and regression.
    • Compare and contrast sample means and proportions.
    • Explain the acid-base balance and fluid compartments.
    • Understand and apply knowledge of reaction types, equations and stoichiometry, equilibrium, kinetics, thermodynamics, descriptive chemistry, and experimental chemistry.

  • About Instructor

    Manal
    Manal El Saati graduated high school in 1990 with honors and was granted a full scholarship from the Harriris Foundation in Lebanon to further her education in sciences. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the American University of Beirut in 1994. But her love for knowledge and education did not stop there. She continued her studies in the same university and achieved a higher degree in education where she mastered the skills of teaching college students to succeed in sciences. She taught Anatomy and Physiology for 10 years. She worked as a lab instructor in the Lebanese university for 4 years. She was a member of the Lebanese committee of education. She compiled many science exams and corrected official tests. She got married in 1999 and came to the United States with her family in 2008. She joined our instructor staff in 2009. She teaches A&P, Microbiology, and Biologogy. Her main goal is to transcend her knowledge to her students and see them succeed in pursing their dreams.
